How does an organisation ensure that it is hearing the views of its majority group – often white men – as well as the views of its women / BAME / LGBT staff when discussing D&I? In order for there to be a cultural shift, it is important to create male allies who champion change. Running a large-scale online survey is one way to capture views, but bringing key communities together for thoughtful and provoking discussions has the benefit of the participants learning from each other. This event will explore how to create male champions for change. Throughout 2019, Macfarlanes ran an initiative for all solicitors in the firm – a Female Lawyers Forum, Male Lawyer Roundtables and BME lawyer workshops.

At this roundtable discussion, Macfarlanes will share how they ran this and some of the key outcomes, including encouraging the men to support the cultural evolution taking place in the firm and the career progression of their female and BAME colleagues.
